Bat fauna and conservation assessment of Kurdistan caves, Iran

The populations of cave-dwelling bat species are encountering a remarkable decline all over the world. To plan effective conservation projects for bats and their cave roosts, collecting data on distribution in particular region is essential. Furthermore, developing an applicable index that incorporates both biotic abiotic parameters relevant to caves useful prioritize management. Recently, there has been growing interest studying fauna Iran. Kurdistan province west country entirely mountainous, having suitable geological substratum formation caves. Previously, five were reported from Kurdistan. current study improved by doubling number province. A total 61 records 10 documented. Overall, 28 studied, 26 used bats. Each hosted one six species. programs, Bat Cave Vulnerability Index (BCVI) was employed explored this study. Four caves, including Karaftu, Kamtaran, Darvish Ouliya, Kouna Sham-Sham, highlighted due highest BCVI value. other 22 received medium or low priority values. In study, we provided addition evaluate priorities applying assessing first time country.
